Treasurer Vivek Malek Sets Third Consecutive Record – Returning Nearly $61 Million in Unclaimed Property to Missourians

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek announced that his office returned nearly $61 million in unclaimed property to Missourians in Fiscal Year 2026. This number has surpassed the record set in Fiscal Year 2025 of $57.8 million, setting a new high in returns for Missouri, and wrapping up a third consecutive year of record-breaking returns under Treasurer Malek’s administration since he assumed office in 2023.
“The Treasurer’s Office is an office of giving, and returning unclaimed property is an important part of that,” said Treasurer Malek. “Many Missourians are unaware of their unclaimed property, and it is our duty to return this money to its rightful owners.”
The Missouri State Treasurer’s Office currently manages over $1.5 billion in unclaimed assets distributed across more than 10 million accounts, and safeguards more than 100 military medals and insignia. Under Missouri law (Section 447.500 RSMo), financial institutions, businesses, and government entities are required to transfer all abandoned assets to the Missouri State Treasurer’s Office who will safeguard and work to return them.
