Treasurer Vivek Malek Announces 2025 Unclaimed Property Auction in Kansas City Region

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Tianna Brooks, 573-751-5390 JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek today announced that the 2025 Unclaimed Property Auction will be held Thursday, October 9, through Friday, October 10, at the Stoney Creek Hotel in Independence, Missouri. The auction will begin at 9:00 AM on both days. Items for sale come from safe deposit boxes turned over to the Treasurer’s Office after five years of inactivity, with proceeds from the auction held in perpetuity for the rightful owner or their heirs to claim. Preview times are as follows: • Wednesday, October 8: 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM • Thursday, October 9: 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM • Friday, October 10: 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM The auction location, Stoney Creek Hotel, 18011 Bass Pro Drive, Independence, MO 64055, brings the event to the Kansas City area for the first time in recent years. Since taking office, Treasurer Malek has prioritized rotating the location of the annual auction to communities across the state—ensuring that all Missourians have the opportunity to engage with and learn about the Unclaimed Property Program. The announcement comes on the heels of yet another record-breaking year for the Treasurer’s Office. In Fiscal Year 2025, Treasurer Malek’s administration returned more than $57.8 million in unclaimed property to rightful owners—the highest annual total in state history. This marks the third consecutive year of record-setting returns under his leadership. Unclaimed property includes bank accounts, stocks, uncashed checks, insurance proceeds, and contents of abandoned safe deposit boxes. The Treasurer’s Office currently safeguards over $1.5 billion in unclaimed assets and continues working daily to return them to their rightful owners.
