JEFFERSON CITY, MO — Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek is excited to announce that the 50 recipients of the MOSTMAY campaign have been notified, each receiving an award of $1,529 this month. In total, $76,450 was awarded to 50 randomly selected new MOST 529 account holders.

Only Missourians who opened a new MOST 529 account during the month of May and made an initial deposit of $50 were eligible to win. Each winner’s $1,529 contribution has been deposited directly into their account. Currently, MOST 529 manages 205,847 funded accounts and nearly $5.5 billion in assets.

The MOSTMAY campaign generated strong participation and savings activity across the state:

  • 209 new accounts were opened in May using the promo code MOSTMAY
  • The average initial account contribution was $1,317 (minimum $50 required for entry)
  • Total initial contributions from entrants reached $275,278
  • Total assets under management from May campaign entrants reached $353,634 as of May 31, 2026

“Each of these accounts demonstrates the initiative of Missourians to prioritize saving for their future education expenses,” said Treasurer Vivek Malek. “I am pleased this incentive could provide an extra boost to new account holders.”

The MOST 529 Education Savings Plan offers a convenient and flexible way for families to get a head start on saving for future education expenses. The account provides a tax-advantaged way to save for education, with earnings growing free from state and federal taxes when used for qualified education expenses. Missouri residents may also benefit from a significant state tax deduction of up to $8,000 per individual, or $16,000 for married couples filing jointly, in the first year an account is opened, and in each year thereafter.

Funds in a MOST 529 account can be used for a wide range of qualified expenses, including tuition, books, supplies, room and board, and computer equipment. Friends and family members may also contribute easily using the accountholder’s Ugift® code.
