JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek is urging eligible Missourians to take advantage of a limited-time opportunity to boost their savings through the Missouri Achieving a Better Life Experience (MO ABLE) program. During August 2025, new account holders who make an initial deposit of at least $25 will receive a $25 match, effectively doubling their starting balance.

“The MO ABLE program continues to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve greater financial independence,” said Treasurer Malek. “This August incentive is an excellent opportunity to maximize your savings and invest in your future.”

  • Eligibility: Missouri residents who developed a qualifying disability before the age of 26 are eligible to open a MO ABLE account.
  • Incentive Details: Open a new account with a minimum $25 deposit between August 1 and August 31, 2025, and receive a $25 match.
  • Contribution Limits: Annual contribution limits apply; the match will not cause the account to exceed these limits.
  • Account Management: Accounts can be managed online, offering flexibility and ease of access.

Benefits of an MO ABLE Account:

  • Tax-Free Savings: Earnings grow tax-free when used for qualified disability-related expenses.
  • Preservation of Benefits: Balances under $100,000 do not affect eligibility for means-tested federal benefits like SSI and Medicaid.
  • Flexible Spending: Funds can be used for a wide range of qualified expenses, including housing, transportation, education, and assistive technology.
  • Investment Options: Choose from five investment options, including FDIC-insured and mutual fund-based portfolios.

About MO ABLE: MO ABLE is a state-sponsored program that provides eligible individuals with disabilities the opportunity to save and invest for qualified disability-related expenses without jeopardizing their eligibility for means-tested federal benefits. The Missouri State Treasurer’s Office administers the program in partnership with the Ohio Treasurer’s Office.
