JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek announced today that his office returned a record-breaking $57.8 million in unclaimed property to Missourians in Fiscal Year 2025—the highest amount ever returned in a single year in state history. This achievement marks another consecutive year of record returns under Treasurer Malek’s leadership.
“When I first took office, I discovered that I had more money in unclaimed property held by the Treasurer’s Office than I had when I first immigrated to the United States as a first-generation American,” Treasurer Malek said. “That personal connection fuels my commitment to return every dollar we can. Behind every claim is a story—sometimes a surprise lifeline, other times a chance to reclaim a piece of the past.”
Since assuming office in 2023, Treasurer Malek has made it a top priority to return unclaimed property quickly and efficiently. His administration has enhanced the claims process and expanded outreach across the state, ensuring more Missourians receive what rightfully belongs to them.
Unclaimed property includes bank accounts, stocks, uncashed checks, insurance proceeds, and contents of abandoned safe deposit boxes. The Treasurer’s Office currently safeguards over $1 billion in unclaimed assets and continues working daily to return them to their rightful owners.
