Nancy Farmer

Nancy Farmer (Democrat), the 43rd State Treasurer, was born Sept. 11, 1956.

She was raised in Jacksonville, Ill., and graduated from Illinois College in 1979. She also studied at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government in 1998.

Mrs. Farmer was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 1992, and served three terms. While in the House, she chaired the Ways and Means Committee. In 1997, she became assistant state treasurer in Treasurer Holden's administration. She was the first woman to hold that position in Missouri's history.

Mrs. Farmer was elected state treasurer on Nov. 7, 2000. She was the first woman to serve as state treasurer in Missouri history.

Mrs. Farmer is married to Darrell Hartke, and they live in St. Louis.
