Jefferson City, Mo. – Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek is recognizing National Financial Freedom Day on July 1, a day that highlights the importance of financial literacy and its vital role in helping individuals and families build long-term financial security.

“National Financial Freedom Day is an opportunity to reflect on our financial habits, set new goals, and take steps toward greater independence,” said Treasurer Malek. “Whether it’s creating a budget, paying down debt, or planning for retirement, having the knowledge and tools to make informed choices is key.”

This national observance encourages Missourians to assess their financial health, identify areas for improvement in their budgeting and savings strategies, and learn more about managing debt, building credit, and preparing for long-term goals such as homeownership or retirement.

To support these efforts, the Treasurer’s Office offers a comprehensive Financial Literacy Portal on the State Treasurer’s website. The portal features a wide range of resources, including planning tools, age-appropriate learning modules, information on student loans and credit, and links to reputable financial education organizations. It serves as a trusted, accessible hub for Missourians at all stages of life.

Treasurer Malek has made financial literacy a cornerstone of his administration. He has championed legislation to create a Missouri Financial Literacy Commission, aiming to bring together educators, business leaders, and community organizations to improve coordination and expand financial education statewide.

“Financial literacy is the foundation of personal freedom,” said Treasurer Malek. “By observing Financial Freedom Day and strengthening our commitment to financial education, we are empowering Missourians to take control of their financial futures with knowledge, confidence, and clarity.”
