GIVING BACK: Our town’s Sarah Steelman, who serves as Missouri
state treasurer, is on a Santa Claus mission of sorts.
What
Treasurer Steelman wants is for people to check her list--her list
of Missourians who are owed unclaimed money or property. (Each year
around $60 million is turned over to the treasurer’s Unclaimed
Property Division to hold until the proper owner is found, and
Steelman wants to get that money back into the hands of the rightful
owners.)
“This is the season for giving, and your treasurer’s
office wants to give back as much money as we can to Missouri
residents,” Steelman said. “What better Christmas surprise than
finding some forgotten property or money that belongs to you or a
family member?”
