ST. LOUIS – Missouri Treasurer Sarah Steelman today joined with other board members of the Missouri Council on Economic Education to accept a $50,000 contribution from ClearPoint Financial Solutions to help the Council’s efforts to increase economic and financial education in Missouri. Gene Poelker, representing ClearPoint Financial Solutions, made the presentation.
“All Missourians, and especially our young people, owe a debt of gratitude to ClearPoint Financial Solutions and MCEE Board Member Gerhardt Petzall for making this major contribution possible,” Steelman said. “This is a wonderful gift that will increase the excellent economic education offerings of both the Council on Economic Education and the MCEE Center at the University of St. Louis.
Half of the $50,000 donation will be used to help fund the Missouri Council on Economic Education and half will be used to finance the organization’s center on the campus of the University of Missouri at St. Louis.
The Council on Economic Education is a non-profit organization established in 1969 to promote economic understanding. The council provides training and resources to educate teachers in economics, including ways in which economics can be integrated across curriculum into subject areas such as language arts, math, writing, business and social studies.
The activities of the Council are carried out through Centers for Economic Education, which are academically supported by and located at the University of Missouri - Kansas City, the University of Missouri-Columbia, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, and Drury University in Springfield.
The Missouri Council on Economic Education is part of an affiliated network of more than 300 state councils and centers operating under the name EconomicsAmerica.
“The Missouri Council on Economic Education is an invaluable resource to Missouri teachers and students alike,” Steelman said. “This generous donation from ClearPoint Financial Services will be of great help to the Council and the St. Louis Center in their efforts to increase economic understanding and literacy in our state.”
