Missouri Treasurer Sarah Steelman Honors St. Louis Principal Darlynn Bosley
With Missouri Treasure Award

JEFFERSON CITY –State Treasurer Sarah Steelman honored Principal Darlynn Bosley on Sunday with the state’s third Missouri Treasure Award, established by Steelman to recognize outstanding contributions of individuals and organizations to Missouri’s heritage, culture and way of life.

“I am honored to present Darlynn Bosley this Missouri Treasure Award for her dedicated service to the children of our state,” Steelman said. “Principal Bosley is making a huge difference in the lives of these beautiful children. She has built an eternal legacy for which we are all grateful.”

Bosley took on an uphill battle in 2003 when she accepted the principal position at Dunbar Elementary School in St. Louis. In recent years the school’s location has been gripped by poverty. Under Bosley’s devoted influence and guidance, the elementary school has now become a jewel of the education system.

In a building that dates to 1812, Bosley has created an environment that fosters learning. Among Dunbar’s recent successes, was Bosley’s report in October that the school’s average yearly progress in student science scores was up 25 percent. Her understanding of the unique challenges faced by schools in the North St. Louis area allow her to identify areas of strength and weakness and form relationships with students.

With more than 20 years of experience in the realm of education, Bosley is a woman that understands the dynamics of a classroom.

After 15 years as a special education teacher at Banneker Elementary School, Bosley moved onto a position as Instructional Coordinator at Jefferson School.

Prior to her current position at Dunbar, Bosley served as principal of Jackson Elementary School from 2001 until its closing in 2003.

“Principal Bosley is making a real difference in the lives of these children and the future of our state,” Steelman said. “She loves and believes in them and expects them to fulfill their potential and realize their dreams. Consequently, these kids believe in themselves. You can see it in their eyes. I know we will see great things from them in years to come. It is my privilege to thank Darlynn Bosley on behalf of the people of our state.”
