Statement from Treasurer Clint Zweifel Following Tonight's State of the State
Says focus on job creation and college affordability will move Missouri forward
JEFFERSON CITY - State Treasurer Clint Zweifel released a statement following Governor Nixon's State of the State address.
"The focus on creating jobs for hardworking Missourians and increasing college affordability, and doing so while being fiscally responsible is of the utmost importance.
Gov. Nixon put forth a plan to do all three tonight. Job creation and access to an affordable higher education are cornerstones to preparing Missouri for success in the
21st Century. I am pleased to have developed a $15 million job creation and property tax relief program with Gov. Nixon. In addition, my office is making a
positive impact on the state's economy though its low-interest loan program, which provided $200 million in loans impacting 2,200 jobs in 2009. I am excited to see A+ Program
access for all Missouri students, and urge the Legislature to send this college affordability bill to Gov. Nixon. Finally, I am in full support of Gov. Nixon's four-point
plan to ethics reform. Gov. Nixon's vision for a 21st-Century economy will move Missouri forward."
