Clint Zweifel enjoys his job By Mark Slavit

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 STATE
CAPITOL -- He was sworn in as Missouri's 45 State
Treasurer this past January. Zweifel
said he enjoys his job of overseeing the management of the state's investments.
His office manages $20 billion in annual state revenues, directs the state's
banking services and oversees Missouri's $3.5 billion investment
portfolio. Zweifel was the first member of his family to attend and
graduate from college. "We're
also looking at college affordability, Mark," Zweifel said. "I
am a first time college student in my family. I am a first generation college
graduate in my family. When I think of a higher education plan, affordability
is really the centerpiece of that and making sure that we have a plan that
really helps families save for college and really builds on that." Zweifel
and his wife Janice are like many other Missouri parents saving for college.
Their daughters Selma and Elma go to school in Columbia. Zweifel said he enjoys
living in Missouri's largest college town. "There are
so many family friendly activities to do," Zweifel said. "Then
there are simple things like the MKT trail and having close access to that at
our house is really exciting. The idea that we can work downtown easily
and get ice cream at Sparky's is great. We are pretty close to Faurot Field.
It's pretty exciting to be able to know that we have games ahead of us and kind
of feel that energy in the city." Zweifel
said one his biggest accomplishments during his time as treasurer so far, is the
creation of the invest in Missouri program. The new law passed the
legislature without receiving one "no" vote. It reinvests more than a
billion dollars in Missouri communities through low-interest loans to small
business owners and farmers. Zweifel said his work for the people of
Missouri is just beginning. If you
