Zweifel hawking unclaimed property at state fair in Sedalia St. Louis Post-Dispatch Wednesday, August 12, 2009, 4:59pm CDT Missouri TreasurerClint Zweifel could be a popular attraction at this month's state fair in Sedalia: He's giving away money. The treasurer's unclaimed property division will be at the annual exposition, which begins tomorrow and lasts until Aug. 23. According to Zweifel, one in ten Missourians is entitled to a stake of some $500 million in orphaned cash. Zweifel's team will set up shop at the Mathewson Exhibition Center and be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors will be able to search through property, ask questions and file claims. The treasurer's office is responsible for safeguarding - and, with any luck, returning - unclaimed property, everything from abandoned safety deposit boxes to uncollected government refund checks. Zweifel's collection of unclaimed property includes, in addition to cash, rare coins, fine cutlery and even a bridal doll. |
